Laura was too embarrassed to ask where Shamika might be. The appearance of Marcus, though, was enough to cause her a mild depression. Shamika might never return. Oh well, she thought. It wasn’t as if she had no bed partners. And then, on a Wednesday afternoon, Shamika suddenly appeared in her office, carrying the big green plastic watering can with the long spout. “Well . . . look who’s here,” Laura smiled brightly at her. “Hello, stranger.
